My work is like a spiritual journey that allows me to return to the dye table – day after day – with renewed anticipation of what beauty will evolve.
I design my clothes with a focus on color, shape and textures that are created on the fabric with paints and dyes. Each piece is not only exquisitely unique in color and design, but is comfortable to wear. I incorporate my prior experience with painting and my love of fabrics to create a versatile wardrobe of wearable art.
At times, I am surprised with the results of a work that seems to have a life of its own – in spite of my intent. This reminds me of the truth that I am not in control of the process. I guide it.
Creating art on fabric is an exciting way to express myself at this point in my life. With years as an addictions specialist, I have always been rewarded by working with people. It is a similar gift to watch people enjoy the colors and shapes of my clothes and to realize that art has the power to evoke emotional responses and to be a healing force – in both the viewer and the artist.
